Synectics support the Division of Information Systems (DIS) within NSF’s Office of Information and Resource Management (OIRM). The mission of OIRM is to provide information systems, human resource management, and general administrative and logistic support functions to the NSF community of scientists, engineers, and educators, as well as to the general public. In addition to performing development, and operations and maintenance (O&M) under the EDAS contract, Synectics will improve NSF’s ability to quickly ingest, analyze, and visualize data from multiple internal and external sources by leveraging and developing a solution that includes emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Using a technical stack that includes HTLM5, CSS3, Google Maps, Google Fusion Tables, Angular Bootstrap, Java, JavaScript, GIS mapping tools, toggle technologies, and open source libraries, Synectics was able to allow end-users and researchers to link phenomenon – like the effects of natural disasters on spikes in depression or drug use. Or determine the preparedness of elder citizens for severe winters. On a map of the Continental United States, users could visualize data from disparate sources, such as HHS, FEMA, and the Census Bureau, and gain understandings that could ultimately shape funding and policy decisions.
