On October 12, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Bethesda Chapter held Health IT Day 2016. This annual event brings together hundreds of industry and government senior executives and IT professionals for wide ranging discussions on healthcare initiatives in the civilian and military populations. This year’s theme was “Transformation and Innovation Fueled by Analytics, Cybersecurity and Digital Services.” Sarah Thayer, Synectics’ Proposal Manager, found it very informative. She said that it “allowed Synectics to gain insights into innovations and next acquisitions in our market. What we learned is directly impacting how we serve our current and future customers.” Another Synectics attendee, Christine Schelble, a Task Lead on a health-related project, appreciated “the opportunity to network with other innovators in the Health IT space and to learn about government health IT priorities and challenges.” She explained that the “government is looking for partners that can offer solutions for the ‘future of the future’—they are looking for partners that can provide and communicate solutions in a manner that shows they are dynamic, can support interoperability, and can ultimately improve health services.” This year’s speakers included VADM Raquel Bono, LaVerne Council, Jim Blagaich, and Rosetta Carrington Lue, among others.
